San Diego HomeTown Trip 2010

FRIDAY RALLIES!!

Well, Today was the verrry last day of rallies for us here in San Diego. We started the day out with an awesome devo by co-leader Charis, who inspired us in keeping touch with our students. Today isn’t the end of our ministry! It continutes for the high school students as they need to stay consistent in their follow up on their campus, and it continues with us leaders because we need to keep encouraging our High School leaders to continue to stay passionate about reaching their campus for Christ.

Today::::

San Marcos: Today was an awesome day at San Marcos. Though there happened to be a club fair the same day that sucked away a lot of attendence, there were about 30 kids present, who were all SO impacted by the gospel. The speaker, Gabe, was so captivating, and Charis said that “at some point or another every student was completely wrapped up into what Gabe was saying”. This is another lesson to us that though lots of students coming is an exciting feature to these rallies, God will effect the amount of people that he wants, and if any one student is truly impacted by Christ through today at San Marcos, man it is so worth it.

Mission Hills: There were about 75 students today at Mission Hills, all listening to the awesome gospel presentation by Wes Trevor. The club has been so encouraged all week, as the amount of students attending the rally today and yesterday pretty much doubled from the first day! That is such an encouragement, and as a result of this week, the club is inspired to make witnessing a monthly activity!

Esco: There was no rally today due to a school-wide talent show, but they still went witnessing after school. 6 students went out and talked to 25-30 people. The club is super excited about all that has happened this week and the great turnout and response they received from the students.

Esco. Charter: Today was huge for Charter. there were over 120 students that came out to hear Benji speak. This included the 50 or so who raised their hand to either rededicate their life or commit their life to Christ!

San Pasqual: There were about 120 students as SP today, including 30 or so who recommited or received Christ. SP had an awesome witnessing day. Brandon was able to come home and tell us all about a conversation he had with a guy who was totally interested in Christ, and open to having a great conversation with Brandon about it. Though he didn’t receive the gospel, he is so interested and wants to learn more!

This week has been seriously amazing. There aren’t really words that describe everything that we have experienced and learned as a team. I think that the biggest thing that we have really learned is the insane power of God to move. Ryan was commenting today in the car as we were driving that “it feels like we are just participating in this awesome week, it doesn’t feel like we planned it all.” And thats so true! Its so amazing to see that God takes the LITTLE amount of work that we really feel like we put in, and turns it into this amazing thing and adventure.

We praise you Lord for all that you have done through us, and for all that you will continue to do on these campuses and in our lives because of what has happened this week. Thank you for California School Project and the opportunity to serve and meet you at these schools and in these student’s lives. Praise be to him!

Overall, over 1000 high school students in san diego heard the gospel this week, and over 150 students had the gospel presented to them throughout the week through personal one on one witnessing opportunities from their peers!

Thank you for tuning in, stay prayerful, and watch out for pictures and more stories on www.californiaschoolproject.com!

Day 3 of rallies!! :) even bigger..

First, lets start with updates!!

Charter: Tobi went to charter and watched 80 students hear the gospel, musician came and talked about God, non-believers took tons of bibles and asked lots of questions about God.

Esco: Kris saw 200 students, benji (youth paster of “The Father’s House”) spoke, there was music and free pizza. With our biggest numbers yet, not that those are super important, there were 50-70 rededications/new commitments(lots of new commitments) people took lots of material. 3 people went witnessing and talked to 10-15. One cool story is that of a girl who, after receiving a bible, yelled to her friend that she should read her bible tonight, and was talking about how excited she was to read hers!!

SP:Brandon went to San Pasqual! Gabe (also from the Father’s House) spoke, gave his testimony. There were about 100 people at this rally! Towards the end, they played a cool line game talking about the different things that people are obsessed with. After school 4 people went witnessing and talked to about 15 kids.

SM: Charis spent her day at San Marcos again, and saw 70 people and hear pastor dan from The Father’s House.  20-25 kids accepted Christ, lots of people took church invites to get connected. 3 people witnessing talked to 13.

MH: Up by 20 people from yesterday, 80 people were at the rally today! Ryan, Charis and I were able to get  free chick-fil-a coupons to hand out, which really drew a lot of people. Especially the sports types. Dave Nichols, a local youth pastor spoke. 10 people went witnessing talked to around 30 people

Aren’t those numbers amazing?!?! It’s so amazing to see God’s work! and to see that he is INCREASING numbers, and that he is affecting people with his gospel and using us somehow to do his work. its all so amazing, and we are so incredibly stoked. Tomorrow is our last day here, and all of the schools have rallies except for Escondido High. Everyone (except for Brandon) will be praying with their schools aroune 7-8 am, and then back for team meeting…then off to lunches and witnessing!!

Enjoy, blessings,

DAY 1 OF THE RALLIES!!!

SO, can you believe that I am writing this blog from BIOLA area where I had to come back for the night, while I am SKYPING with my team during our team meeting and getting all of the summaries of everyones days??? Technology serving God :) so, lets begin!!

4 of our 5 schools had rallies today! You guys would not believe how God moved….

San Pasqual: Brandon and Tobi went to this school! They brought 20 pizzas, 100 students packed into a small room, benji (the youth pastor of a local church), talked about our obsessions and presented the gospel. 1/3 of the people raised their hands to rededicate or accept Christ into their lives! All of the pizza was gone :) (Tobi got none, he was very sad) They went back after school for witnessing. There were 6 club members that went witnessing with them (4 guys, 2 girls). They handed out materials and had rad talks. Overall, they talked to about 15 people, and two of the club members talked to 4 girls who ALL ACCEPTED CHRIST. They prayed with them and had great conversations about our saviour :)

Esco: Kris went to esco. They began the morning with prayer at 7AM. Their lunch rally had pizza, and they had about 80 people in the stands, and about 20 on the sides of the gym. They played the “line game” (game about acceptance), and it was a hit! everyone played and everyone was into it. Then a student named Chelsea shared about acceptance, and then Gabe (pastor of “the father’s house”) came up and talked about acceptance and gave some of his testimony. After school they went witnessing. 11 students came witnessing with Kris. They talked to about 44 PEOPLE! Kris says that “the kids had a great time, and really enjoyed stepping out in their faith. it was really cool”

San Marcos: Charis and Ryan went to San Marcos today. They prayed at 8am. Next, they went back for lunch and were NOT ALLOWED IN! The school was not allowing Jon Greere (our BMX-er) to perform, and not even letting Charis, Ryan and Jon on campus. Amazingly, a teacher came and just grabbed them and led them on campus and Jon was allowed to perform! He performed and shared his testimony to 78 students (performed WHILE sharing his testimony). He did awesome tricks (jumping over chairs, people and people in chairs on his bike). After school they went witnessing and talked with 13 people. They shared the gospel with 8 of those 13 people, and the Christian club members that came along LOVED it.

Mission Hills: Today at Mission Hills over 40 people went to the rally, and 2 people came up after and verbally told them that they had no knowledge of Christ at all. The 2 people walked away with bibles and a great conversation about Christ under their belt.

Below is a video of Jon Greer performing!!! We didn’t get many pictures of our own today, but are needing to collect pictures from other Christian Club leaders who took them today.

Enjoy the video :) Today overall, there were 320 students on high school campuses in san diego who heard the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ :) God is smiling today! Prayers that we will follow up and help develop relationships and ideas that are starting to form in the lives of these students.

With all our love and prayers and blessings,

CSP San Diego Hometown Crew.

p.s. I (Torrey), had to go back to work today because there is lots to do as my work is a small company that is opening next week. I am really exciting about opening at work but was bummed that I had leave the rallies! But then tonight after work I got a call from my boss that they decided I can leave tomorrow and go back to S.D.!!! SO. I will be there weds-fri. Super awesome answer to prayer for me and seeing God work, as I was prayerful that he would work something out. Just more encouragement from God and working out all of these things for his glory. Such a blessing.

KICK OFF! success :)

Today was our KICK OFF!!

What does that even mean? you may be asking yourself…well, our kick off included 5 high schools, over 30 high schoolers, spray paint, hot dogs, posters, t-shirts, worship music, staples, staplers, tracts, over 2000 pieces of literature, prayer, and sooooo much Jesus!!

The team woke up late after a night of bonding last night, ate some lunch, read outside in the beautiful sun, and then made our OBSESSED t-shirts. OBSESSED, in case anyone in cyber world is curious, is the theme that all 5 of our schools are using. This is a great theme because the students are talking to high schoolers about what they’re OBSESSED with and how our OBSESSION is Jesus and how other OBSESSIONS don’t measure up! We bought stencils and spray paint and each student brought a shirt, and the magic began. (pictures below).

Then there was tons of poster making (pictures below), tract stapling (pictures below), prayer (pictures below), and witness training. It was so awesome to see the students getting excited, and starting to see the work that God is doing already, and how even if no one gets saved or hears the Gospel who has never heard it, the excitement and encourgement to spread the gospel that the students in the Christian clubs are getting is enough for this all to be worth it. Praise the Lord!! :)

We are planning like crazy for tomorrow and SO excited for our rallies to start! We are exhausted already, but exhausted with excitement. And tomorrow’s blog will be so so awesome talking about the first day of rallies and how everything went! All 5 schools tomorrow have a rally, so there will be lots of updates. For now, enjoy these pictures :)

PLANNING WEEKEND! It Has Begun!!

Well….it has begun….

Tonight is the first night that the team is assembled (minus Brandon)! We went to two different churches this morning, and one tonight, to talk to congregations and youth groups about the Kick off event which is tomorrow night (eek!), and get them praying about the rally! 4 of us (me (torrey), ryan, charis, and kris) went to “The Father’s House” and were brought on stage and prayed over with some of the christian club leaders, and Tobi and Brandon went to Emmanuel Faith.  Anyway, it was needless to say so awesome to feel the excitement of the congregation and feel the love of Brothers and Sisters in Christ who are supporting us in this!

It was a beautiful day and Ryan, Kris, Charis and myself went to a field and played some frisbee! Thats the kind of thing that you can do in beautiful sunny 75 degree san diego in January :)

We are currently in the middle of our planning meeting, planning the kick off event for tomorrow! it is from 4-8 at a church and we will be making posters, tshirts, and praising God. We have 5 schools coming, and are so excited that this is all actually happening. We are getting food donated (it seems like everything has been donated!) and will eat and converse and pray lots. This is the first post of the trip, and undoubtedlyslightly unexciting at this point. BUT there is only more excitement and joy and praise and troubles to come!! PLEASE stay posted and prayerful as we start to post pictures, and videos and talk alll about this journey.

Thank you! Till next time….
