Mission Trips

The beginning of an amazing week!

Today the Madera Hometown team and  leaders Joana, Sasha, and Vince from North Campus High school gathered to make posters for the week of their outreach themed “Come to stay.” They hope to reach students on their campus by showing them they can find refuge in God  who will never abandon them.  The students want to help others discover the loving grace and salvation He offers to all. They are excited to see what is to come in the week that is to approach.  The students have been creating ways to gain other students interest and have the opportunity to share the gospel with them. The mentors are so proud of the students passion and willingness to reach out to their youth. God is moving greatly in the hearts and lives of these students.

Please pray for us mentors as we are spending time with the students. That we may be able to encourage them and that it may be Him speaking through us. That this week may be a learning experience for all of us. God has been blessing us greatly providing us through financial aid, opening doors, and encountering such loving people. God has been teaching the team to continually leaning on Him and trusting in Him knowing that He is in control of all situations.

Our team continues to meditate on Matthew 5:14-16, “You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. 15Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.”

Team Madera Reaches Out!

Hey Guys!

Thank you for agreeing to pray for our ministry. We are apart of the California School Project, a ministry at Biola University and we are mentoring christian high schools students in Madera, California which is 20 minutes north of Fresno. We are partnering with them to impact their campuses through outreach. We help them plan rallies, go witnessing, establish regular prayer, pass out christian literature, and other fun stuff. Our main goal is to see Christ glorified on campuses so that students may come to know God intimately. We get the privilege of doing this through developing high school christian club students in leadership, outreach training, and encouragement.

We are currently working with two high school campuses in Madera, Madera High School and Liberty High School. We have recently challenged them to do a week of outreach on their campuses during the month of April. From April 2-10 we will be helping the students to finish planning their outreach week in Madera, California. Giving them further outreach training and we will also be ministering to the homeless population in city of Madera.

Our team bible verse is Matthew 5:14-16, “You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. 15Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.”

Pray that God’s love would be at the center of everything we do. As we minister to the homeless in Madera and as we go witnessing on high school campuses with the Christian students. Pray that God would use our words to draw people closer to him. Pray that God would continue to soften hearts in Madera, and that we would talk to the people that he wants us to. Pray that the christian students helping in the rally will grow closer to God through this experience.

Thank you for your prayers. We’ll be keeping you updated during this outreach week.

Poster Party!

We spent a number of hours making posters with several of the students from Liberty High School and Bakersfield High School today.  They worked really hard to make eye-catching posters that would intrigue the students on their campuses.

The theme at these high schools is “Bigger Than…” Each day of the rallies, they will speak about what God is bigger than!  Some of the topics they will touch on is how God is bigger than death, worry, comparison, life, and everything.

Bakersfield High School: The students at BHS are really excited to get started.  They will start prayer in the morning on Monday and hope to get much of their club in on some witnessing training after school on Monday.

Liberty High School: We met with a couple of the leaders from the club at LHS this evening for a prayer meeting.  It was awesome and powerful to be able to pray with them and encourage them.  They’re eager to see God move at their school!  They will also begin prayer and witnessing training on Monday.

Prayer Requests:

  • Please pray that the students would be built up tomorrow before their outreach weeks begin and that they are feeling bold and ready to reach their student body.
  • Pray for the speakers that will be on the campuses.  Please pray that they will know what to say and that they will be able to reach and even arouse curiosity in the students.
  • Also pray that each of the leaders involved, both in the high schools as well as us on the campus mentor team, will be humbled this upcoming week.  Pray that we allow God to be glorified and that we don’t rely on ourselves in the process.

Thank you!

Down to Lake Elsinore

We made it down to the beautiful dirt streets of Lake Elsinore. We are ready to start the preparation for the outreaches at the schools that we are working with and we’re hoping to spread the excitement.

We are working with two of the local schools in the area; Elsinore High School and Lakeside High School. We’re excited to be working with these schools and to be a part in helping mobilizing the clubs. This will be the first big outreach for Lakeside and a pivotal point in the leadership development of Elsinore High.

Elsinore High School: Elsinore will be doing advertising on Monday and Tuesday with some shirts, posters, and fliers. Wednesday they are having a band come play in their big gym with a student giving their testimony, and then on Thursday and Friday they are going to do Christian musical chairs and have a guest speaker come.

Lakeside High School: On Monday, Lakeside will be doing advertising and Tuesday will begin their rally week. To start it off, they will have a band playing in the quad and will have two students give their testimonies. On Wednesday, they will continue their week with some games and interactive activities for the students in school and Thursday they will have a slam poet come do some poetry and 3 students will give their testimonies. On Friday, they will finish it off with some break dancers with a guest speaker from a local church.

Monday after school, we will be meeting with the students with some final encouragements and training to kick off the week.

Prayer Requests:

  • Please pray for the Students at both schools who are involved. Pray that they will be bold in their proclamation of their faith and that other Christians will be attracted to this boldness and get involved.
  • Pray that Lakeside will have a smooth experience with getting the final things approved by administration
  • Pray that God will prepare the hearts of many non-Christians to hear the gospel and that He would call them to Him

Thank you very much and we’ll keep you updated :)

Welcome to BAKERSFIELD

Here we are!  Beautiful Bakersfield, California.  While knowing that it is referred to as the “armpit of California” and other names that are just as endearing, we are ready to begin our 10-day journey.

We will be working with two local high schools:  Bakersfield High School and Liberty High School and we’re excited to rock Bakersfield, especially after the outreach that occurred at Shafter High School in the area.

Last week, after one rally on Friday and an event at a local church, 25 students prayed to commit themselves to Jesus Christ! This is certainly an encouraging note to begin our time here!

Bakersfield High: Bakersfield will be putting on two rallies, doing literature distribution, praying before school, and doing personal witnessing.

Liberty High: Liberty will be putting on five rallies while also distributing Christian literature, praying, and doing witnessing.

Tomorrow, these schools will meet to make posters and do final preparation and witnessing training before they embark on their mission to rock their campuses.  They’ve been encouraged by each other as well as the eight schools that they have partnered with.

Prayer Requests:

  • Please pray for the students involved in the Christian clubs.  Pray that they are bold in their faith this week and ready and willing to answer questions and seek people out.
  • Pray that one of the campus mentors, Cassie, has a safe trip to her grandparent’s house and is able to meet us safely on Wednesday.
  • Pray for the non-Christian students on the public campuses.  Pray that their hearts are open and welcome to the Gospel message and that they are able to have an opportunity to have their questions answered.

Thank you!

Good Friday at Willow Canyon

“Good Friday is today. It’s when we celebrate the death of Jesus.” That’s a paradox anytime, and even more unexpected to hear at a public high school.

But today, Willow Canyon celebrated Good Friday.

All week long the students shared Jesus with their friends. They explained how you can start a relationship with Him, get back on track after falling away, and ask questions to learn more. And the best thing is that the message has sunk in.

Yesterday 5 students prayed to receive Christ at lunchtime.

2 days ago, a freshman named Chris rededicated his life to Christ. He says he was getting off track and neglecting to read the bible, but when a club member share the 4 spiritual laws with him, something clicked and he made a decision to pursue God again.

Some girls have been coming all week. They’re not Christians, but are listening, seeking to know more, and God is working.

All of these students came back again today – Christian club members, new believers, and seekers – and heard the good news of the death of Jesus put on display in clear and powerful words as a local youth pastor spoke.

Because so many of them had been here before and came back, it was obvious that God was drawing them. He is at work in their lives, and working through the SOAR club at Willow Canyon.

Because of that, when we all got together and listened to the good news of Good Friday, it was a celebration.

God moves…

…and it’s not always how I’d expect.

The students at Willow Canyon High School had their fourth day of outreach today during lunch in the lecture hall.  A couple of the Christian students were supposed to give their testimonies from the stage, but God had something else planned.

The SOAR Christian club members walked around and individually shared the gospel with the students who walked into the room.

Even though only 15 students attended the rally each lunch hour, God brought the right students to the lecture hall and five prayed to receive Christ!

I am grateful for the reminder that God is the one who draws people to Himself.  Please continue to pray for the Willow Canyon students tomorrow afternoon as a few club members share their testimonies and a guest speaker gives a Good Friday gospel presentation.

Early Morning = Great Time to Share about Jesus

Day 3 of Share The Passion week at Willow Canyon.

At least 8 students from SOAR showed up at 6:50 and got busy talking to people about Jesus. Wielding John 3:16 surveys and gospel tracts, they didn’t waste the short time before the bell rang at 7:15.

One amazing thing about this week is the boldness and initiative of SOAR members.

Yesterday at the lunchtime rallies, 45 students came out to the lecture hall and the SOAR club members talked to all of them about Jesus. Pictured below, Katie addresses the students about John 3:16, the gospel, and the meaning of Share The Passion Week.

Even though the room was far from full, Katie, SOAR club president, was very encouraged by the people that did come, including 2 students who she has prayed with before. Katie hopes and believes that God is working in them, and that something will happen in their lives this week. She says, “When I started SOAR, God was giving me dreams about people coming to Christ, and I really see that happening this week.”

Today at lunchtime, a youth pastor will share a message in SOAR’s 3rd day of outreach rallies.

Day 1: check! Willow Canyon’s Week-Long Outreach

The club is titled Sold Out And Radical for Jesus, and these students are just that.

Despite some opposition from the school administration, these crazy-about-Jesus kids pressed on and welcomed their peers to learn about Him and what He did for them.

They set up a table in the quad during lunch time, handing out free Bibles, tracts and candy, and asking if the students “knew who this Jesus guy is.”  In total, 200-300 students visited the table, and the club passed out 105 Bibles, among other materials. We’re hustling to get more for the rest of the week!

This club has only been together for a year, and this week is a huge step of faith for them, but they’ve risen to the challenge and have found that sharing their faith isn’t that hard after all.  As one SOAR student shared, “I thought it was gonna be scary, but it totally wasn’t!”

Two SOAR students with club t-shirts they made

Continue to pray for boldness for these students as they share their testimonies in the lunch-time rally tomorrow.

It all starts with prayer…

8 students praying around their flagpole as the sun sets: Its a powerful thing.

Last night, they came and prayed for God to open the campus to them, for God to give them favor in the eyes of administrators, for God to bring their friends to faith in Jesus.

This morning they were back again at 6:50 am to open the day and the week with prayer for their campus.

The members of S.O.A.R: Sold Out And Radical for Jesus Club.

Pray for them today as they share Jesus with their friends. Most of them for the first time ever, all of them very excited.
