Bakersfield

Another day, another chance to share the Gospel!  The students were encouraged this morning during prayer and expressed excitement in having another chance to share Christ on their campuses.

Bakersfield High School: During the rally at lunch, Bakersfield gave free pizza to people who would come to the rally.  The theme was Bigger Than Everything and Youth Pastor Kris Stratton opened with a time of singing and music.  Then, the club presidents AJ and Troy shared their testimonies to the crowd.  On response cards, six students indicated that they accepted Christ for the first time and 20 students rededicated their lives to Christ! Then, after school, club member Aubrey went with Cassie, Charis and Justin to witness to 19 students.  Many were intrigued and touched by the many Christians students that stepped out at the club today.

Liberty High School: The rallies at Liberty were in the quad today.  Youth Pastor Mark spoke and explained the brevity of life and how it’s important to take life seriously.  One student approached Jayse, the club president and inquired about God.  He said that he has been searching for God a lot lately and he was eager to get more information.  Jayse gave him a Bible and a tract and invited him to the club meeting tomorrow.  Praise the Lord for questions answered!

Prayer Requests:

  • Praise the Lord for the six people who came to know Christ today!
  • Pray that the club at Bakersfield High will be able to follow up quickly and effectively with the people who filled out response cards.
  • Please pray for the final rally at Liberty tomorrow and that people would come to have their questions answered.
  • Please pray for the people who have heard the Gospel this week and don’t yet know what it means for their life.  Pray that they would be prompted to seek God more and would have their questions answered.
  • Pray for the Christian clubs; that they would raise up new leaders for next year, teach boldness in witnessing, and that this week would leave a lasting legacy.

Thank you for your prayer!

From Pizza to Ninjas

The students at both Bakersfield High School and Liberty High School excitedly welcomed people into their rallies today.  They used food and prizes to attract the attention of many of the students on campus and both gave out a lot of Christian literature.

Bakersfield High School: The students in the Fist Pump 4 Jesus club were hyped up today as they opened their gym to invite their peers in to hear the band Confessing Yesterday and hear Youth Pastor Mike speak about how God is bigger than life.  They gave out Christian literature at the rally and some of the club members took the initiative and went to those not at the rally to pass out literature.  To their surprise, many people took the material eagerly!  Overall, about 200 students heard the Gospel message.  After school, club members Kenny and Troy went witnessing with campus mentors Charis, Cassie, and Justin.  While witnessing, they were able to share the Gospel with three people!  One student expressed a lot of interest in finding out more about God and said that he would be going to the rally tomorrow!

Liberty High School: The rally at Liberty start ed to d ay with a ninja game competition!  The last three people standing received prizes and about 55 people heard the Gospel message! Youth Pastor JC spoke on how God is bigger than death and explained why he doesn’t have to fear death.  The students were encouraged by the turnout!

Thankfully, Cassie made it safely to Bakersfield today!  We’re excited that she got to see the Bakersfield High rallies and go witnessing with them today.

Prayer Requests:

  • Please pray for the rallies tomorrow: that all would be unable to avoid hearing the Gospel, that God would move, and that someone would come to a saving faith.
  • Pray for the Christian students: that they would be bold and be given chances to proclaim the Truth and that they wouldn’t be caught up by business or anxiety.
  • Pray that the speakers would be able to reach the students and show them the way to everlasting life.

Thank you for your prayer support!

Another Day, Another Rally

The day began again with excitement and prayer to praise the Lord and invite Him to move on the high school campuses.

Bakersfield High School: The students put their posters up yesterday and are very ready to begin their outreach tomorrow!

Liberty High School:  At today’s rally, the students began with a jerking competition and gave candy to the winners who could do the jerk dance the best.  This really drew a crowd!  Then, Pastor JC spoke about comparison and how he doesn’t have to compare himself now that he knows that he’s equal with others in the eyes of God.  As a result of the rally, about 500 students heard the Gospel message and about 40 Bibles were handed out among tracts, Gospels of John, and apologetics DVDs.

Prayer Requests:

  • Please continue to pray for the speakers and that they will attract and reach many of the students on the high school campuses.
  • Please pray for the students at Bakersfield as they put on their first rally tomorrow.
  • Pray for both campuses that the students would be open to proclaiming their faith and the students would be prepared for the Gospel.
  • Pray for Cassie’s safety as she drives to Bakersfield tomorrow to join us!

Thank you, everyone!

Poster Party!

We spent a number of hours making posters with several of the students from Liberty High School and Bakersfield High School today.  They worked really hard to make eye-catching posters that would intrigue the students on their campuses.

The theme at these high schools is “Bigger Than…” Each day of the rallies, they will speak about what God is bigger than!  Some of the topics they will touch on is how God is bigger than death, worry, comparison, life, and everything.

Bakersfield High School: The students at BHS are really excited to get started.  They will start prayer in the morning on Monday and hope to get much of their club in on some witnessing training after school on Monday.

Liberty High School: We met with a couple of the leaders from the club at LHS this evening for a prayer meeting.  It was awesome and powerful to be able to pray with them and encourage them.  They’re eager to see God move at their school!  They will also begin prayer and witnessing training on Monday.

Prayer Requests:

  • Please pray that the students would be built up tomorrow before their outreach weeks begin and that they are feeling bold and ready to reach their student body.
  • Pray for the speakers that will be on the campuses.  Please pray that they will know what to say and that they will be able to reach and even arouse curiosity in the students.
  • Also pray that each of the leaders involved, both in the high schools as well as us on the campus mentor team, will be humbled this upcoming week.  Pray that we allow God to be glorified and that we don’t rely on ourselves in the process.

Thank you!

Welcome to BAKERSFIELD

Here we are!  Beautiful Bakersfield, California.  While knowing that it is referred to as the “armpit of California” and other names that are just as endearing, we are ready to begin our 10-day journey.

We will be working with two local high schools:  Bakersfield High School and Liberty High School and we’re excited to rock Bakersfield, especially after the outreach that occurred at Shafter High School in the area.

Last week, after one rally on Friday and an event at a local church, 25 students prayed to commit themselves to Jesus Christ! This is certainly an encouraging note to begin our time here!

Bakersfield High: Bakersfield will be putting on two rallies, doing literature distribution, praying before school, and doing personal witnessing.

Liberty High: Liberty will be putting on five rallies while also distributing Christian literature, praying, and doing witnessing.

Tomorrow, these schools will meet to make posters and do final preparation and witnessing training before they embark on their mission to rock their campuses.  They’ve been encouraged by each other as well as the eight schools that they have partnered with.

Prayer Requests:

  • Please pray for the students involved in the Christian clubs.  Pray that they are bold in their faith this week and ready and willing to answer questions and seek people out.
  • Pray that one of the campus mentors, Cassie, has a safe trip to her grandparent’s house and is able to meet us safely on Wednesday.
  • Pray for the non-Christian students on the public campuses.  Pray that their hearts are open and welcome to the Gospel message and that they are able to have an opportunity to have their questions answered.

Thank you!
