Mission Trips

A Beautiful Ending

Saturday was the teams last day in Madera. The students from North Madera High met with the mentors at 1st Streets Church to continue their poster party. We were able to have more bonding time with the students and gave each a little present. :) The students finished the posters they needed and did their rally shirts as well! All is set for next week!!! :D The team will be keeping in contact with both North Madera High and Liberty High through their rally and the rest of the school year.

Last day together (Alysha, Jona, Steph, and Sasha)

We will miss the students greatly! All the team were blessed seeing how amazing these students are! :)

Prayer Request:

Praise that all the mentors made it back to Biola safe from Madera!

North Madera High- That their rally may go well this week coming up. That they may be bold and courageous through doing the events each day.

Liberty High- That all the permits get approved to do their rally and that all goes well with their planning. For Strength to continue with doing the rally.

So Long! Fair Well!

After lots of planning, praying, and prepping, the students have done it, with God’s help, of course. Eight rallies over six days took place in the Bakersfield area and over 30 people accepted Christ for the first time. The students at the schools are still very excited about what God has done on their campuses and are beginning to plan for more outreach and more follow-up.

Bakersfield High School: AJ and Troy, the club presidents, are planning on welcoming new people into their club this week.  During their two days of outreach, they gave away over 200 Bibles.  They want to continue to do follow-up by calling those who turned in comment cards and preparing to answer questions at club meetings.  They’re also excited about bringing new leaders into leadership and helping them plan for next year.

Liberty High School: Leaders Jayse and Katie are starting to bring up new leaders as well and are expecting to answer questions in their club meetings.  They are excited to welcome Anthony into their club as a result of the rallies and will be planning with their leaders and club for more outreach.  One student who came to the rallies told Katie that he had fallen away from the church and going to the rallies made him realize how much he missed going to church and how much he really needed it.  During their outreach, many students got a free Bible, tract, Gospel of John, or apologetic DVD.  Even a janitor came by and picked up a Gospel of John.

Shafter High School: Club president Kaley said that in the beginning, she didn’t expect such fruit to come from the rallies but she’s so happy it did.  She and her club will be contacting those who filled out response cards and preparing for more outreach.  She will be involved in the club as a senior next year and has even started getting in contact with Wasco High School’s Christian club to share how to put on these events.

On behalf of all of the students and campus mentors, thank you for your prayers.  We appreciate all of what God has been doing and much of that has to do with constant prayer and communication with God.  Please continue to pray for Bakersfield.

Prayer Requests:

  • Please pray for the students who have accepted Christ for the first time.  Pray that they would get involved in a church and would not be afraid to come to the Christian club for support.
  • Pray that this week would not end the outreach in the clubs but that they would have a heart for telling their student body about Christ from here on out.
  • Pray for the campuses; that more people would become curious about what the Christian club is and would come to a saving faith.

Once again, thank you for your prayers.  May God bless you!

An Explosion of Goodness, Gospel, and Pizza

Today was the final day of a long and awesome week. We really got to see the way God works today at both Lakeside and Elsinore High and all we could do is laugh. Laugh at ourselves for having any worry that things wouldn’t happen, and laugh because God really does have a great sense of humor.

Lakeside High School: There were break dancers and a speaker who’s message was about the things of this world not satisfying. It was located in the small gym and there was free pizza as an advertisement for the rally. During the first lunch, the pizza was really distracting to a lot of the students so during second lunch, the team decided to change it up a bit in order to focus the students attention on the speaker. We had the Gideons bring bibles and we had an abundant amount of tracts. The students were really eager to take the materials and we gave away over 200 bibles! It was really exciting to see the students hunger for more information as well as pizza. Afterwords, a few of the students stuck around for conversation with the team members, Club members and speaker. The conversations were a great starting point for some of these students as they found that there is more to life than just living and dying. It was an amazing experience for the Student Venture club members and it was incredible for us to see the leaders of the group step up the way they did. God did some incredible things and we can only give the glory for this success to Him! :)

Elsinore High School: When we made it over to Elsinore, it was a real test of God’s control. The gym wasn’t open, the lights weren’t on and nothing was set up at all. There were 9 minutes til lunch started, needless to say it was a bit stressful. But when all seemed to be hopeless (at least for 1st lunch) God came through in the funniest way. We had the janitor come in to turn on the lights and as we were setting up, a bunch of guys came in (who weren’t believers) who ended up helping us put together the materials and set the bibles up. Miraculously, everything was set up and ready to go by the time the bell rang and students started rolling in. We laughed at how God was using non-believers to accomplish His goals. He doesn’t need us to do His work and He decided to give us a picture of that in the funniest ways. The students sat down to hear a local youth pastor tell them logical reasoning for believing that Jesus was God and afterwords came and got free pizza. As we were giving out pizza, more and more people started streaming in looking for the free pizza and Kellee had the ingenious idea of giving away pizza to only those who had a bible and tracts. Every student that came in grabbed a bible and tracts and came for the pizza. It was incredible to see how eager the students were to grab the tracts regardless of the pizza.

Then at second lunch, we had more of the club members come in to help. But there was one student (this is worth a special mention) named Luke. Luke is an old friend of Brandon’s who decided he would come to the rallies on his own and was excited to see that Brandon was there. This time, however, not only did he recruit a ton of more people to come, but he helped pass out bibles and tracts like he was a leader of the club. Luke is not a christian and wasn’t going Student venture and yet he was one of our most prominent leaders at this rally. It was incredible to see God do His work even with non-believers. Now Luke did show a lot of interest and we are convinced that God is working in His life, but we were just blown away at God’s control.

This is Luke, one of our best leaders.

These rallies were absolutely incredible. We passed out more than 380 bibles plus all the tracts that came with it. God accomplished what He wanted and it was incredible to see that it was only Him who could have done all this. All the credit can only go to Him and we were just blessed to be a part of it :)

Prayer Requests:

  • Please pray that God will continue to work in the lives of these students who have heard and that He will draw them to Him.
  • Also pray that the Student Venture clubs will be intentional in their follow-up and that they will continue to catch of the vision of outreach on these campus’s
  • Pray that God word will continue to be proclaimed on these high school campus’s all throughout California and that He will be known in all places.

Thank you all so much for your support and prayers. It has been an incredible week and the Gospel has been shared. Please continue to keep California School Project in your prayers as we continue to help Christian Clubs on High School campus’s and God bless! :)

Jona handing out John 3:16 surveys around campus

Jona handing out John 3:16 surveys around campus

Another wonderful day working with Liberty High school and North Madera High. Things were a little less busy, but it was enjoyable getting to spend more time with the Christian club students and each other. :)

Liberty High School:

Mentors Zack, and Aly met Liberty’s Christian club during lunch to discuss further plans for their outreach events. Two boys from the christian club who have recently rejoined the christian club shared  their desire to outreach. The mentors could see how passionate they were and ready to do what they had to to accomplish it. The students were very responsive today and were able to share more about their vision for their school.

North Madera High School:

Mentors Alysha, Stephanie, and Jeryan along with christian club students passed out John 3:16 surveys during lunch. John 3:16 surveys ask questions regarding the passage and what it means to them. It also asks them questions such as how often they read the bible and the importance of doing it. 20-30 surveys were received from the students. Sasha, andJeryan got a few responses from students. Sasha approached a few students allowing her to speak to them.

Mentor helping out

Prayer Requests:

  • Praise that this week with the students went well. Thanks to God for making this trip possible!
  • Liberty: that the christian students may continue being on fire for God.  Rising many up on their campus. Strength as they are preparing for their outreach.
  • North Madera High: That the students in the christian club may continue doing as they are. For comfort and strength to continue persevering through struggles at home and at school.
  • Team: For a safe trip to Bakersfield. Spending the last day with students on sat. That it may just be a blessing for all. We have greatly enjoyed being a part of these amazing students lives and seeing how much they want to do for God!

    Mentor and Student bonding. :)

A day full of surprises!

Today Madera mentors split up into two groups teaming up with  Liberty High and Madera North Campus during lunch and after school to help them reach their campuses.

Liberty High School:

6 other students from the Christian club came along side Arielle to getting involved to outreach on their campus. The mentors asked each student “what their vision for their campus was?” and “what they wanted to see God do in their lives?” Mentors, Aly and Alysha were able to encourage the students and give them words of wisdom. :)

North Madera High school:

Mentors Zack, Jeryan, and Stephanie met with the christian club during lunch to ask students on their campus questions they had regarding life and God. The responses that we got from the students were unbelievable, asking questions such as, “what is the second coming?” “when was Jesus born and why did he die?” and “Is God three or one?” After school the mentors and student, Sasha were able to talk to four girls asking them, “what do you think happens after death?” The girls responses were amazing and open to hearing what we had to say explaining to them who Jesus is, what He did, and how He desires to have a relationship with them. At the end of our conversation we were able to pray for them and gave them information to how they could get more involved with knowing God. God is doing great things! :D

Mentors at North Madera High

Sasha and Mentor praying over two students. :)

Prayer Requests:

  • Praise God! He has been moving through both campus in awesome ways and helping both students and mentors reach to others!
  • Liberty High- Josh: understanding the forgiveness that God offers and what it means.
  • North Madera High- Joana: Understanding God’s grace and being able to live in it.
  • Team of Mentors- Strength and wisdom over all of us. Not letting fear conquer us.
  • All of Christian club leaders: for any struggles their going through and for their family life. For continuous boldness knowing that they can be used by God in ways we can’t even imagine!

Thank you all for your support and prayers!

Another day, another chance to share the Gospel!  The students were encouraged this morning during prayer and expressed excitement in having another chance to share Christ on their campuses.

Bakersfield High School: During the rally at lunch, Bakersfield gave free pizza to people who would come to the rally.  The theme was Bigger Than Everything and Youth Pastor Kris Stratton opened with a time of singing and music.  Then, the club presidents AJ and Troy shared their testimonies to the crowd.  On response cards, six students indicated that they accepted Christ for the first time and 20 students rededicated their lives to Christ! Then, after school, club member Aubrey went with Cassie, Charis and Justin to witness to 19 students.  Many were intrigued and touched by the many Christians students that stepped out at the club today.

Liberty High School: The rallies at Liberty were in the quad today.  Youth Pastor Mark spoke and explained the brevity of life and how it’s important to take life seriously.  One student approached Jayse, the club president and inquired about God.  He said that he has been searching for God a lot lately and he was eager to get more information.  Jayse gave him a Bible and a tract and invited him to the club meeting tomorrow.  Praise the Lord for questions answered!

Prayer Requests:

  • Praise the Lord for the six people who came to know Christ today!
  • Pray that the club at Bakersfield High will be able to follow up quickly and effectively with the people who filled out response cards.
  • Please pray for the final rally at Liberty tomorrow and that people would come to have their questions answered.
  • Please pray for the people who have heard the Gospel this week and don’t yet know what it means for their life.  Pray that they would be prompted to seek God more and would have their questions answered.
  • Pray for the Christian clubs; that they would raise up new leaders for next year, teach boldness in witnessing, and that this week would leave a lasting legacy.

Thank you for your prayer!

CJ for JC and Musical Chairs :D

Mike struttin’ his stuff

Today was a pivotal point for both schools as they pulled off their second rally. “It was each schools second rally, details went more smoothly and the students really grasped how to personally participate in impacting their campus. They were much more confident to pass out materials, pass out fliers, talk to people about Jesus, etc… They were really starting to get it!” -The Kellee Thompson

Lakeside High School: At Lakeside today, we had a slam poet named Curtis Jones (Also known as CJ if you saw the title) come and do some poetry for the students at lunch. It was awesome to see how the students reacted and how excited they got when he started doing his poetry. Some students were just watching and listening while others were getting into it and started to beat box to his rhymes. So many students got to hear about the love of Jesus through Curtis’s poetry and there was quite the response. It was really exciting to see how the students were really connecting with Curtis and what he was talking about.

This guy was beat boxin’ with Curtis :)

Elsinore High School: The Students at Elsinore put on a musical chairs event to advertise their Friday event in the gym. They had a good crowd watching and it gave the students a great opportunity to share what the Student Venture club is all about and what their theme of “who?” meant for the student body. They also passed out fliers for the Friday event and handed out prizes to the winners of those who participated. “I was really surprised and encouraged to see how many people came to play.” -The Kellee Thompson. The purpose of today was publicity for Friday and they accomplished that flawlessly. Tons of students were eager to get a flier and are excited about the event tomorrow.

We’ve seen some large advances in the students initiative and we’re excited to see the climax of the week happening tomorrow. This whole week has been driving to this point and we are glad to be a part of this exciting climax.

Prayer Request:

  • Pray that tomorrow will be a great ending point for the week and that the gospel will be shared to many and lives will be changed.
  • Pray for the continuation of God’s spirit moving after this week is over.
  • Pray that we can speak and bring the gospel to many after school when we go witnessing

Thank you all so much for your support and prayers. This week has been amazing and we will finish strong! :)

Aly speaking what is on her heart to Dixie a Church leader in Madera

God has been moving in great ways as the team has been in Madera. We have continually been blessed by all the people that we have encountered these past days. They have been such an inspiration and encouragement to all the team.

Liberty High School:

Today we met with the christian club during lunch and the team was able to speak and encourage the students on their campus. Josh, a student at Liberty, shared with his club the passion he feels to reaching out to his fellow classmates and creating a lasting relationship with Him.  Liberty’s Outreach week will begin two weeks from now, but the Christian students will begin walking around after school tomorrow to talk to other students about God and pray with them. We were happy to be able to meet with such amazing kids. :)

North Madera High School

The christian club and mentors split up to go witnessing on campus after school. We had the opportunity to pray over some students and tell them about God. This gave each of us a chance to step out of our comfort zone and take a step of faith not knowing what was going to happen.  After the leaders and mentors had a chance to continue talking about what God was doing in their lives and spent some quality time with them. Tomorrow the students and mentors will go witnessing after school again. :D

Mentors spending time with Christian Club leaders from North. :)

Valley West Christian Center and Yosemite Christian Center’s

At night the team split up to talk to two  youth groups. The team encouraged the kids to impact their campus through their lives and not being afraid to reach out. We know it might be a scary thing to do but we believe that there is nothing impossible for God.  Pastor Charles and Markus were both an amazing encouragement to the team and sharing their vision for the city.

Prayer Requests:

  • We want to praise God for all that He has been doing in our lives and rearranging our schedules for the best!
  • Pray that God would lead us as we go witnessing tomorrow at Liberty High School and Madera High School.
  • Liberty: Vision from God for their campus. In the midst of outreach that they will not get discouraged because they are doing the work of God.
  • North: That Sasha, Jona, Emily, and Vince may be showered in God’s love. That they would not feel that this not a duty but that they are moving because of God’s love. That He may be at the forefront of everything they do.
  • That God may continue to raise up an army in his campus that is witnessing through their lives even if it is not through the christian club.
  • Team Madera: That God may continue teaching us through this week. that there would be fearlessness in us, taking courage, and authority in God to advance His kingdom in Madera, CA.

From Pizza to Ninjas

The students at both Bakersfield High School and Liberty High School excitedly welcomed people into their rallies today.  They used food and prizes to attract the attention of many of the students on campus and both gave out a lot of Christian literature.

Bakersfield High School: The students in the Fist Pump 4 Jesus club were hyped up today as they opened their gym to invite their peers in to hear the band Confessing Yesterday and hear Youth Pastor Mike speak about how God is bigger than life.  They gave out Christian literature at the rally and some of the club members took the initiative and went to those not at the rally to pass out literature.  To their surprise, many people took the material eagerly!  Overall, about 200 students heard the Gospel message.  After school, club members Kenny and Troy went witnessing with campus mentors Charis, Cassie, and Justin.  While witnessing, they were able to share the Gospel with three people!  One student expressed a lot of interest in finding out more about God and said that he would be going to the rally tomorrow!

Liberty High School: The rally at Liberty start ed to d ay with a ninja game competition!  The last three people standing received prizes and about 55 people heard the Gospel message! Youth Pastor JC spoke on how God is bigger than death and explained why he doesn’t have to fear death.  The students were encouraged by the turnout!

Thankfully, Cassie made it safely to Bakersfield today!  We’re excited that she got to see the Bakersfield High rallies and go witnessing with them today.

Prayer Requests:

  • Please pray for the rallies tomorrow: that all would be unable to avoid hearing the Gospel, that God would move, and that someone would come to a saving faith.
  • Pray for the Christian students: that they would be bold and be given chances to proclaim the Truth and that they wouldn’t be caught up by business or anxiety.
  • Pray that the speakers would be able to reach the students and show them the way to everlasting life.

Thank you for your prayer support!

Watch the Momentum roll!

Today has been a great day of seeing God work! We have been so blessed to see God move, even when we thought that things weren’t going as we planned. It has been such an encouraging thing to see that these outreaches are not happening because of how good we are at our job, but rather because God is good and He wants people to hear about Him. So where do we start with today…

Oh I know! We’ll start with this!

Elsinore High School: Elsinore high kicked off the week today with their first rally. They had a local band called “Doulos” (which means bond servant) come and play in their small gym. We were all a bit nervous about it actually being pulled off or not because we hadn’t had much luck with advertising up to this point. But God is so good! Not only did the club members do great at bringing people, but Brandon even had some non-Christian friends that were bringing people in just because they were excited to see him. God was using everyone to bring people in and we were excited to see His word spoken to all the students who did show up. It was an incredible success! and quite unexpected to be honest. But that’s not where that excitement ended…

After the rally, we were going to meet with students from both schools to witness after school. So we split. Brandon and Aubrey headed over to Lakeside High School while Mike and Kelly stayed at Elsinore High. When it came time to start witnessing, the students at both schools were no where to be found. Mike and Kelly decided they would just walk around and talk to some people about the rally and hopefully get some good opportunities to share the gospel. But Brandon and Aubrey had an interesting experience over at Lakeside.

When Brandon and Aubrey went to Lakeside, they were met with a close to empty campus and no response from the students in the Christian Club. They continued to call while walking deeper into campus and came to a stop. Frustrated with the situation, they decided prayer would be the best option. So they sat on a bench, mid campus, and prayed that God would just guide them. They didn’t want to make any decisions without His guidance. As soon as they went silent to listen for a word, the phone rang with the decision making information. God’s answer was clear, to go back to Kelly and Mike and mobilize the students to come with them on Thursday and Friday. Discouraged, Aubrey stated how she really wanted to tell someone about God and that she had three tracts in her possession. Brandon and Aubrey decided that God would bring who He would bring and they would leave that up to Him. Just as they were walking out, three people walked up and the two had an opportunity to talk to them about Christ. Aubrey got to hand out those exact three tracts and Brandon was blown away by how quickly God answered and brought people. God is so good!

Prayer Requests:

  • Please pray for the students that we were able to speak to at the high schools. Ask that God would just move in their lives through our conversations.
  • Pray for the slam poet coming to Lakeside on Thursday. Pray that his poetry will impact the student’s lives.
  • Pray that God gives us as a team and the students in the School clubs boldness and courage to bring glory to Him.
  • Pray that God will guide students to us and guide us to students so that His word will be known

Thank you all so much for your support and prayers! It is such a blessing to see God move on these campus’s :)
