Powerful Love

Students at La Mirada High School

Students at La Mirada High School

A lot of the time, high school students don’t have much to say when you mention God. That’s why I love talking to students who ask thoughtful questions about God. John (name changed) from La Mirada high was one of those students.

After Ben and I explained what we believed, John asked, “Why did God create anything in the first place?”

We explained that God had such great love that He wanted to share with more people. This didn’t quite make sense to John. He told us that the emotion of love made God too human and less powerful. He understood the idea of God as the most powerful Being in the universe, but couldn’t grasp that the same Being could love us individually.

That’s the thing about Christianity. It reveals the Almighty loving God to humans who can’t imagine love and power being in the same room, let alone the same God. You can sit in a philosophy or theology class and discuss the attributes of God, but, for me at least, it took a conversation with a seeking high school student to really appreciate the love and power of my Savior Jesus Christ.

We handed John the high school student a Gospel of John booklet after our conversation. Pray that he too will meet the living God of love.

Huntington Park Rally: Day 1

Huntington Park had their first rally for share the passion yesterday, on the 30th. Things went really well. Two local pastors came to the school and shared their testimonies, while members of the Bible Club had a table set up for people to come to and receive answers to questions and get Bibles and tracts. After the rally, everything was counted up and over 100 Bibles were given to students and faculty! Today they are planning the same thing during lunch in another area of campus, so they can reach more people. I’m awaiting a call from the club advisor, Matt Fisher, to find out how it went, as well as receiving pictures of the event.

Tuesday at Shurr High

It was a busy day for Shurr High School as the students from BASIC (Brothers and Sisters in Christ) put on a short skit as well as had a student testimony. During and after the rally, BASIC passed out about 50 materials to fellow students! 50! Since it was the first day of Share the Passion, I’m sure there’s a lot more great stuff coming from Shurr High School. Keep up the good work!

Sunny Hills Update!

CSP leader, Dave, is enthusiastic to be working with Sunny Hills High School. Sunny Hill’s Christian Club shows great initiative in weekly personal witnessing to fellow peers about Jesus. This club is also very conscientious to meet three times a week. All to say that this club’s activities have been occurring even before the mentorship of CSP! Dave, and Sunny Hill’s Christian Club, are both looking forward to an encouraging year of impact!

Prayer Request: That the Lord’s many gifts may be utilized through the members of Sunny Hill’s Christian Club to impact their school for Jesus Christ.

South El Monte’s Prayer Requests

South El Monte’s campus mentors, Aubrey and Brandon, still have not been able to meet with the students again because of schedule conflicts.   The advisor may not be understanding the need for the campus mentors to directly mentor the students.

+ Please pray that Aubrey and Brandon would be able to meet with the students.

+ May the Lord be working with and building up the leaders in the Christian club!

Garfield: Praying for growth and outreach when giving Bibles

Garfield High’s campus mentors, Ryan and Marissa, were kept from meet with club since Ryan–the driver–was sick.  Please pray that they would be able to meet this week to continue outreach planning.  The club of three members wants to set up a table and give Bibles and tracks to their peers.

Praise the Lord that the club is excited for what God can do.

Campus mentors Ryan and Marissa are looking forward to this year of ministry because, if something is going to happen on this campus, it will really have to be God doing it, with only three people in the club at the beginning.

Please pray for:

+ club growth

+the Spirit’s work while the students make an impact on their campus, giving booklets and information about their spiritual walk
